About

Mournful Whale Productions is an independent film company based in the South-East of  the United Kingdom.

The company started life in 2011 as a film collective of like-minded film makers who gathered together to take part in a 48-hour film competition.

Realising their mutual passion, the group formed Mournful Whale Productions in its current form; a film company that creates high-quality film and video for a range of clients across the United Kingdom.

From Events to Promotions, Music Videos to Showreels, Documentaries to Short Films; Mournful Whale Productions caters to all needs whilst still producing the artistic work that the company was first founded for.

Meet the Team

Nick Tingley

Partner & Artistic Director

Nick was born into a theatrical family and, as such, was immediately immersed in to the world of entertainment.

Nick's career in the theatre industry has seen him take many roles: stage management, director, fight choreographer, musical director among others.

In 2005, whilst at his first year of university, Nick was part of a team that established a summer youth theatre company, Ash Green Youth Theatre, which linked young performers with professional theatre practitioners. This experience led him to be one of the main driving forces behind the creation of Mournful Whale Productions when he finally made the transition to the film industry in 2011.

He has had the pleasure of working with some of the foremost entertainment companies of the day, including the National Theatre, as well as numerous youth and educational companies.

A man of many talents, Nick has never let the entertainment industry be his only love. He is a trained archaeologist and a keen historian and has spent time living abroad in Bulgaria and Greece.

Gemma Chitty

Partner & Producer

Although she studied film at university, Gemma stumbled into film making almost by accident.

Having a keen eye for the small details has meant that she naturally fulfils the role of a continuity and script supervisor and has furthered this by attending a supervisor course run by Avril Rowlands.

From there, Gemma has immersed herself in various departments and is a versatile and valued member of the team. From editing to stand in cameras, she is involved in each project from the very beginning to the final cut.

Gemma was always interested in drama and theatre, and it was through following these interests that she became involved in the film world and ultimately in becoming a partner at Mournful Whale.

Gemma is also a keen hockey player, playing twice in the National Vase Final, and has a strong passion for music and photography.

"A film maker once said that films are never completed, they are only abandoned; we at Mournful Whale Productions respectfully disagree!"
